Serving the arts and artists in Pocahontas County

What is the Pocahontas Arts Council?
The Pocahontas County Arts Council builds an appreciation of the arts
through education and advocacy. Through programs available in the
schools and in the community, we encourage the inclusion of the arts in
all aspects of community life.
Monies used in the Council are secured through a percentage of the
county’s hotel/motel tax. The Council is made up of nine community
representatives who meet monthly to consider grants and sponsorship
requests.
One of the newest and most exciting programs we are involved with is
the student mentoring program. Accomplished artists meet with high
school students weekly to offer suggestions on technique as well as
provide support for the students’ authentic flow, spontaneity, and
imagination.
The Council Art Show featured during Pioneer Days in July is well
received in the community. Both students and adult non-professional
artists use several mediums to demonstrate their abilities. Young
people from the county are quite delighted to see their work with a
blue ribbon it.
Besides the visual arts, we lend our support to live theater, creative writing, and the appreciation of various styles of music.
